Springtime in the Rockies is here. Time for another season of great fishing on Rifle Gap Reservoir – The best multi-specie fishery on the western slope of Colorado. We’re talking huge Brown and Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Walleyes, Northern Pike, Giant Yellow Perch, Crappies and Bluegills. Early spring fishing can be lights out. Almost every specie of fish will be in an aggressive spawn mode. Almost everything except the brown trout will be spawning, and they’ll be aggressive as well.
This is an awesome time to fish this fantastic jewel, as the boat ramp will be opening on Easter Sunday –April 1st. Right now is the time to get on this event as there is only a very small amount of fishing/boating/skiing pressure on the lake. Rifle Gap is a Colorado State Park that requires a daily pass which costs $7.00 or if you want an annual pass will cost you $70.00.
Springtime is also a great time for controlled depth fishing while trolling with electronic downriggers for the really big browns and rainbows, as well as working just the right spring jig patterns for the small mouth bass. While shore fishing can be good, fishing from a well equipped boat makes all the difference in the world.

Wow! Such an awesome post. This is a great article thanks for sharing this informative information. I am a regular reader of your Blog and I love every piece of information you share here. I know something about fishing kayaks..Fishing kayaks are essential for fishing. Without the suitable fishing kayaks, a professional fishing life is impossible. Therefore, choosing a fishing kayak is most important for an angler. Sometimes, fishers fail to choose the best kayaks due to their lack of experience.
Thanks Robert. Kayaks are awesome for not only flat water but rivers as well. You sound like you know the business. Best Wishes, John Harcourt
