January 1, It’s hard to believe that our day time temperatures are still in the 40 degree range. Looking at weather forecast, it is expected to be unseasonable warm through January 9th. Mid 40’s. The ski areas are barely open, but the fishing is awesome. With the shorter days, we are putting on at about 10 or 11 O’clock and doing 3/4 day or half day floats. We always have some great home made green chile or chicken noodle soup on the boats to warm us up. It’s a fun time of year to fish, as there are very few boats on the river, and the fish are all starting to move into the deep holes. They’ll get stacked in there like cord wood. So if your legs get a little tired on the ski slopes, take a break and catch some fish. Now is a great time to book your summer trip, especially for those special hatches that fill up.
