The Bar ZX is the most amazing place to catch monster trout in the world, as well as being one of the most scenic places in Colorado. It was voted the #1 still water trout fishery in America, by Fly Fish Magazine. and it’s only 60 minutes away from your dream trip of a lifetime.
I’m am honored to be Elevation Outdoor Magazine 2019 “Best of the Rockies”, “Best Guide” covering 6 states. as well as being voted the “Local’s favorite guide” multiple times. f you are fly fishing in or around Glenwood Springs, Colorado, you should put this on your bucket list. We’re talking trout that start at 3 pound and grow to over 20 pounds. The odds of landing one of these monsters over 7 pounds is in your favor. Dean and Cathy Lampton are amazing hosts to this property, and to be one of the exclusive outfitting guides is an honor. We’ve been guiding on this little piece of heaven for over 15 years.
There are 26 lakes and ponds to fish. Each one was stocked with different species of trout You can fish for Snake River Cutthroats, German Browns, Cutthroats, Western Rainbows and Cutthroats, Tasmanian Rainbows, Eastern Brook Trout (up to 5 pounds), wild Brook Trout (up to 6 pounds), and Tiger Trout. The average fish landed is about 5 pounds. Eight to 12 pound trout are frequently landed. It’s not uncommon to be the lucky client that got to have a 17-18 pound fish on, with maybe a 20% chance of landing it. These fish will come up for dry flies, especially late evening. We call it Happy Hour. Most fly shops are 9-5, so they can be ready for tomorrow’s money, and they miss the best part of the fishing day, extremely early(6:00 am,or extremely late (9:00pm). Our idea trip usually leaves the Glenwood Springs area around noon, we drive 1 hour, fish for 4 hours, have a great dinner, at what we call “Butch Cassidy’s hideout” re rig for some awesome evening fishing until dark (9:00 pm). We arrive back to Glenwood about 10:30. If you want to do a 9-5 trip, we can do that, but you should see what a difference we offer. It’s a really long day for us, but we love to share this fabulous experience that will last in your memory for a lifetime, and it’s all about you and your memories. Rod fees are an additional $150 per angler, like the price of a lift ticket in addition to a wade trip pricing. Due to the time and distance involved we have a minimum price of $575 whether it is one or two anglers.
